In my old studio in Streetsville I photographed the Colcleugh clan back in the nineties when all the grandchildren were yet little kids. However, David Colcleugh, the grandfather of the kids, while I photographed him when he was CEO of Dupont, was on a mission to have a portrait session done of all his grandchildren when they turned sixteen. I photographed the first sweet sixteen photography session in 2010 (Tarah), and now it was Brian’s turn. So Linda called me a few weeks ago for the sweet sixteen photography session with Brian. Photographing teenagers is never an easy task because most of them are trying to come to terms with their identities and looks. So when Brian walked in with his parents and sister Ashley, I knew right away that he was going to be a great individual to photograph, even though he was nervous. It took no time for him to feel comfortable in front of the camera and the rest is history as you can see form his great images of the sweet sixteen photography session.

It’s going to be a hard task for mom and dad to decide on their favorite images because Brian is such a handsome young man.

While Brian was changing I couldn’t resist to photograph a future sweet sixteen photography session candidate with such a sweet personality and wonderful look. At first Ashley was shy because I caught her by surprise and she wasn’t prepared for the session at all but I let her know it wasn’t about the clothing, it was about her face.

What’s up girls? … Brian’s in the house!

It would not be a regular session for me if I couldn’t get brother & sister to hug – a real treat for parents!

Don’t wait until one day you realize the important growing years are over and there are no portraits to look back on, portraits that your children will want to treasure with their new families.

Nothing says love like expecting moms, cuddly newborns, bouncy baby bundles, and toddlers on the move. Combining the beauty of new life with stunning photography, Portrait Boutique offers timeless art and keepsakes from these special milestone moments in our exclusive Baby Storybook.

An investment in portrait art not only has financial value but more importantly has personal value. By creating your family legacy you will have something tangible for your children and their children to look back on.

These moments and milestones, that you will never see again, will be captured to be remembered forever. You will visually document the changes which occur in the stages of your family’s life.

Babyhood: newborn
Because this magical stage of life passes in the blink of an eye, newborn portraits are captured as early as possible while your little one is still sleepy and content. Newborns are captured alone, swaddled in your favorite blanket, or in their baby birthday suit (your choice). We can also take images with siblings and parents. A newborn session will last approximately two to three hours. We have found that this is the required time in order to capture very unique images and give mom enough time to tend to baby’s needs.

Another option for our clients is to split the newborn session into two sessions. If the goal of the session is to capture an extremely detailed pose we may focus on capturing this first. The second appointment will be to include mom and dad and siblings and some candid images. Therefore, anytime between the newborn session and three months, we invite our clients to come back for a relationship study. While the newborn session is important at capturing stunning imagery of your brand new baby, the follow-up session enables us to showcase the intimate relationship developing between mom, dad, and baby. Follow up sessions are perfect as a second newborn session, up to about nine weeks.

What should we bring to our session?
Lot’s of cute hats, blankets and trinkets that are heirlooms or that you would like to be heirlooms. The studio offers a huge assortment of newborn hats, lots of blankets and fabrics, baskets, and accessories. Don’t worry if you don’t have too much to bring.

For parents wishing to capture an artistic ‘sleeping baby’ portrait we recommend coming to the studio in the first week or so. We have amenities which make mom and dad feel very comfortable. There is no rush during the session so that mom can tend to baby’s needs and take some time-out for herself. Don’t worry, we always have things to do while you enjoy your time with us.

Don’t forget to reserve your gorgeous custom baby announcements to share your own new work of art with the world, provided free of charge to all of our clients. Family and friends will be able to celebrate your arrival with you in designs to fit your new arrival’s personality, from baby rock star bling to soft, eyelet dreams.

Babyhood: three months
A three-month portrait will preserve that time of freshness when babies are new human beings totally dependent on their families. At this stage babies are cuddly, chubby and full of fun smiles.

Babyhood: six months
This key milestone portrait is the sitting up portrait taken at approximately six months. When baby is ready for sitting but not yet on the go, we will capture them at the roly-poly happy phase, when those big grins and belly laughs are lighting up your life. Sitting babies make the absolute best models, since they cannot crawl away and are easily amused with peek-a-boo and squeaky toys. Portraits at this stage capture the beginnings of those dynamic personalities that will be with you forever, and give a glimpse into a small person interacting with their environment as only those small bundles of delight can.

Babyhood: nine months
At nine months a classic study of mother and baby is the perfect piece of art to feature in your home. Since they are starting to crawl away but still cling to mom they are most comfortable sitting on a lap and being held. During this session we also photograph baby standing, holding on to something for balance.

Babyhood: one year
This key milestone is the perfect time for a family portrait. Your baby now has good posture and can respond to playing with others. At this age, your toddler will be interacting in lots of fun ways. Standing, walking and ready to take on the world, we document their infectious energy and charisma that brings so much light (and sometimes surprise) into your life. At the end of this session, we will create your much anticipated art collage with images from baby’s sessions throughout the year! This is the perfect time to include the cake-bashing portrait. Clients are encourages to bring a real birthday cake and let their toddler do the rest while we document what happens next.
